Visceral osteopathy in gynecology

In visceral osteopathy, reduced mobility and motility of internal organs is understood to play a causal role in various diseases, including those of the female genitourinary system. Jean-Pierre Barral adapted visceral osteopathy, which he himself developed, to the needs of patients with gynecological problems. Because it incorporates gentle techniques into treatment, visceral osteopathy is particularly well suited for use in gynecology. Gynecological complaints in the urogenital area include the bladder, uterus, cervix, fallopian tubes, ovaries and pelvis.

Of particular note are, of course, are the functional disorders within gynecology:

  • Menstrual problems and menstrual pain
  • Abdominal cramping and stomach pain
  • Ovarian cysts
  • Endometriosis
  • Contact pain, pain in sexual intercourse, dyspareunia
  • Infertility
  • Pregnancy-related disorders
  • Menopausal complaints, hot flashes, sweating
  • Scarring and adhesions after operations
  • Organ prolapses, ptoses
  • Preparation for artificial insemination, in order to stimulate blood flow of the uterus and ovaries
  • Correction of pelvic stasis as a preparation for extra-uterine insemination

Correction of the pelvic floor after childbirth prevents incontinence and should be performed as part every woman’s post-natal and pelvic floor exercise routine!

However, osteopathy for women is not just limited to this area. The following examples are also possible indications / areas of application:

  • chronic cystitis,
  • recurrent cystitis
  • kidney problems
  • Incontinence (stress incontinence or urge incontinence)
  • Indigestion (especially if regular)
